Abbreviation for frames per second, referring to a unit of measurement used when dealing with video. Each frame is a picture. The frames per second indicate how many times the picture will be changed per second.
For example, in film there are 24 (fps) frames per second, in standard U.S. color television there are 29.97 fps. European standard television uses 25 frames per second.
